Frequently asked questions

What are the practitioners’ qualifications?

Our practitioners are Registered Nutritional Therapists and Functional Medicine Practitioners. Registered Nutritional Therapists must complete a minimum of a three-year postgraduate diploma course, which has been approved by the government-backed Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). They must also adhere to the strict standards outlined by the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT). Functional Medicine Practitioners must complete the rigorous training delivered by The Institute for Functional Medicine in the US (IFM) and are required to renew their qualification every seven years. All our practitioners have professional indemnity insurance.

Do the practitioners have medical training?

Our practitioners don’t have medical training. However, they’ve all studied biomedicine and have extensive knowledge of drug-nutrient interactions. They do not diagnose any conditions but are trained to know when to refer someone to their doctor.

How is this different to seeing my GP?

We see ourselves as a complement to your GP. Your GP has just a few minutes provide you with the best-possible advice, which usually centres around symptom-management. There’s more that can be done. We take the time to learn about you and your lifestyle, giving you personalised advice that addresses the root causes of your symptoms. We’re not knocking GPs—they deserve enormous respect—but we aim to give people an option that goes beyond symptom-management. That being said, you should never ignore medical advice. If you have any queries about how dietary and lifestyle changes may impact your current treatment plan, it’s important you speak to your doctor.

How can I choose a practitioner?

You can read more about our practitioners here. Each have different specialities that may resonate with you, or you may simply feel that a particular person a better fit. The therapeutic relationship is a huge part of the Functional Medicine process and we encourage people to choose what feels right for them. When booking a consultation, you can choose your practitioner in the drop-down box titled ‘Please select a Practitioner’.

Will I get to speak to the same practitioner every time?

Absolutely. You’re free to choose whomever you like when booking a consultation. Simply click your preferred practitioner from the drop-box box here and you’ll be able to see their availability.

I don’t have Skype. How can I speak to my practitioner?

No problem—we also offer consultations via Zoom. You’ll be sent a link so that you can easily access the consultation via your computer at the arranged time.

Do you offer in-person consultations?

We don’t currently offer in-person consultations. However, our virtual consultations mean that you can speak to our practitioners from the comfort of your own home, or from anywhere in the world.

What happens after the consultation?

After the consultation, your practitioner will give you personalised advice based on your discussion and your goals. This advice will be posted in your Healthpath account. Simply log into your dashboard here in order to view it.

How many appointments will I need?

Plans typically last between 6-12 weeks and we would encourage booking a follow up consultation with your practitioner when your first protocol is completed. This help you progress into the next phase of your support and make sure that your health concerns are fully addressed and resolved over the long term.

It is common for patients with more complex health histories to need 6-12 months of support from our practitioners, with consultations at spaced intervals throughout that time. Your pracitioner will always try to give you an accurate estimation at the start of your treatment, but it is important to know and understand that true healing is rarely linear or predictable in this way.
