Are certain foods causing you problems?

Perhaps you can’t pinpoint why you get migraines, or you suspect that food is behind your sinus or skin issues?

Food sensitivities can cause a broad range of symptoms—from obvious digestive signs such as bloating, diarrhoea and abdominal pain, to less obvious ones like migraines and brain fog—so it can be difficult to know where to start.

Discover your food intolerances

What causes food intolerances?

Discover your food intolerances

Food intolerances, or sensitivities, happen when your body struggles to digest or break down a food.

Symptoms can take anywhere from a few hours to three days to appear, which makes it tricky to identify the true cause.

And it can be hard to tell if it’s really the food causing the issue, or another digestive condition, such as leaky gut, IBS or SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth).

One of the biggest causes of a food intolerance is dysbiosis — an imbalance of the communities of bacteria and other microbes in your gut — so as well as identifying any triggers, it may be worth exploring your gut microbiome as a whole.

How our food intolerance tests and personalised health plan can help you

At home food intolerance test

Find out if foods are causing you problems with this painless, finger-prick blood test.

We look at IgG antibodies to identify which foods you’re reacting to and, unlike other providers, we also ask about your symptoms.

Our practitioners review both your results and your symptoms to create a practical, easy-to-understand report to improve your gut health—so your diet can become as inclusive as possible over the long term.

A path to a better, healthier you. That’s why we’re called Healthpath, and why thousands of doctors & practitioners recommend us.

Frequently asked questions

Is food sensitivity testing legitimate?

Yes, we believe there is real value in food sensitivity testing if you know how to interpret the results. Rather than focusing on specific foods, it can be helpful to look at the overall picture presented by the results. If you find you’re sensitive to lots of foods, for example, it could mean that your gut health needs addressing. You may also wish to consider the Leaky Gut Test and the Gut Health Test. Feel free to get in touch with us at if you’d like further guidance.

Will I have to give up lots of foods?

Not necessarily. If you find you have lots of foods in the ‘red’, it can be more helpful to focus on improving your gut health rather than subjecting yourself to extreme dietary restrictions. Your food intolerance test report will explain this in full detail. If you’d like to know more, feel free to get in touch with us at

Who should take the food intolerance test?

People who feel they’re reactive to lots of foods may find this test helpful. If can also be helpful for people who suspect they have food sensitivities but can’t seem to establish any pattern to their symptoms.

Do you ship outside the UK?

At the moment we only ship to UK addresses. If you have a special request, please feel free to get in touch.

Do I need to stop taking supplements or medications before taking the food intolerance test?

This test may be affected by immunosuppressant medications. However, you must not stop any medications in order to take this test. Please speak to your GP first.

Is there anything I need to do before taking this test?

You must follow your normal diet before taking the food intolerance test. However, if there’s a food that you’ve avoided for more than 3 months but which you would like tested (e.g. cow’s milk), reintroduce that food. Eat one portion of the food daily for a week before taking the test. For more information, see the test instructions.

What should I do if I have a question or an issue with taking my sample?

If you have any questions or issues with taking your sample according to the instructions provided, it is important you contact us before you send your sample to the lab.

Healthpath cannot guarantee to intercept your sample once it arrives at the lab and so it may still be processed.

Is there anyone who shouldn't take the food intolerance test?

Pregnant women should not take this test as their immune system is suppressed. It should be fine to take the test 4–6 weeks after giving birth.

How long for food intolerance test results?

Your results will be posted on your online account a maximum of 10 working days after you return your samples, though it’s often sooner.

How do I view my results?

Simply log in to your Healthpath account here and click ‘Tests’. You’ll be able to access your results and personalised recommendations 10 working days after returning your samples (sometimes sooner).

Why can't I get this test through my GP?

Functional tests are highly specialised and currently not offered through the NHS. At present, the only option is to pay for them privately. We appreciate you want to spend your money wisely, which is why we only offer tests that are genuinely helpful.

How will I know what my results mean?

All your results data is accompanied by clear, jargon-free explanations. Our practitioners also review all results, providing personalised recommendations that are easy-to-follow and specific to you.

Can I buy a test for my child?

We do offer tests for children, but it’s important you work with a practitioner experienced in working with children.

Personalised, 1 to 1 support with a practitioner is beneficial when implementing dietary changes with children.

It is important to reach out to our team to discuss the test before you purchase.
